1st Fighter Wing Association has reached it's goal! Thanks to all the generous donations, construction has begun!!
The Association project committee has met and conqoured the last financial hurdle. The 1st Wing has come forward with sufficient funds to finish off the project in a first class fashion. The remaining hurdles: concrete color decision, reinstatute the bollard lights for the walkway and fund the plaques and stanchions have all been resolved. We were able, at no cost, to have the color of the pad replicate a runway, white. This should really make the presentation pop to viewers on the street. The bollard lights were orginally thought too expensive were cut. Due to an accounting error the funding for stanchions and plaques were never included in the plan. The Wing came forward to fund both unfunded elements of the project and Rob DeStasio found a small business frame shop, run by two former 94th crew chiefs who donated one plaque while Wing funding covered the other. However that is only one element of the good news. Footing for the A/C mounts was poured today and shown in latest pictures of the site. The project is really moving out. Current A/C movement plans are now firm:
30 Sept--Towed out of hangar for the wash rack and washed 1 Oct--A/C placed in old wash rack until site ready to accept 4 Oct--A/C towed from west ramp to site and and A/C struts welded to footings. Remaining work is planned to be completed NLT 31 Oct Racquet
